what the fuck is wrong with people? (again)

I'm feeling a little incoherent with rage.

I just called the bouncy castle guy who'd said he'd come out to measure the garden for us. The lady at his landline number gave me his mobile. When I rang it, he said 'Hello?'

I said 'hi, have you got a minute?' in case he was working.

And he retorted: that depends. What do you want?
.....

That depends, what do you want?

???

It's his fucking business phone. What the fuck does he think I want? His first born? A massage??

GAAHHH the rudeness of people!!

My husband works with the public daily and he is losing his patience although he is one of the most patient people in the world. People are just getting ruder and ruder. Why is this? Why are we losing our manners?

Did you say who you were? Cos I used to get that on a work phone a lot.

How am I supposed to know who you are?

I think a lot of people with small business hae a work/personal number not both. I often ring people on mobiles that sound surprised to be getting a business call.

So he might have thought you were some cold caller or something. But yeah they should know better.

He didn't need to know who I was. I was a potential caller calling his business line, the one he advertises as such.

If you're going to use it for your business, it's your business line.

However, I suppose I could have been Sky harrassing him, but that's pushing it, to be honest. I was just trying to be polite, which always seems to make things worse.

Anyway, he was standing outside the house when I drove up, with giant thick glasses, a do it yourself haircut and a certain look about his anorak that said 'socially challenged'. So I decided it might be a condition and I'd forgo lecturing him this time. And he was fairly friendly and normal after that.

Thank god I have a blog though, so I don't have to hit people in the head with the brick I would otherwise carry round in my bag.

Hi, there! First time poster!

I totally know what you mean. It seems like some people have thrown manners and common decency out the door these days. Perhaps his business will fail due to his turdiness.

Hi Lady Lemon. Even in the land of 'have a nice day' you find this?!

I despair, I really do.

I had a similar situation. I drove to a mechanic and said , "I have a small problem"

His reply:

"And I don't have time, what is it?"

WTF?

Crap, don't say that!

Ha, though.

Agh! Crap like that pisses me off. And it's his business, yeah? He's not even just an employee?

Oh Jo I think I met your bouncy castle man on Saturday .... similar experience and one of his "helpers" was even more obnoxious . Wont be giving him my money again me thinks.

To be fair, in the flesh, he and his helpers were perfectly frienly and mannerly. And let us off ten quid, so I really cant complain.
