milestones

Olivia lost her first tooth! It came out in the school yard today, I was greeted by a grinning girl with a gap and a tiny pearly milk tooth in a tissue, at hometime.

It feels somehow more significant than it did when the first one (probably this one?) grew in - I don't know why: the tooth fairy visits tonight - I am a real parent! It seems likea rite of passage.

The new tooth is placed way further back than her other baby teeth. I'm fairly sure expensive orthodontistry lies in the futures of both my children. Perhaps that's what makes you a real parent: the cost of braces. Ah well.

I remember finding our baby teeth in one of the vases that my mother kept on the mantelpiece in her bedroom, purple agianst the white wall.
I was old enough to not be disappointed, but the little graveyard collection of ivory was ... I don't know, fascinating, yet weird. Somehow, a collection of tiny ivory fairy sculptures made more sense.

I think it might be more significant because there aren't as many milestones around at that age. My little daughter amazes me every day with something new she can do. Not so much with my five year old.

See, I just see a fairy with a wig in that picture.

My mum used to keep all ours as well. My sister and I found them and it freaked us out no end.

Saying that, we were in our twenties at the time and to find 9 childrens' baby teeth isn't very pleasant at all.

How much are teeth worth these days anyway?

That's hilarious Mick. I think you should make beautiful jewelery out of them that could double as creepy art work.

I have quite a few teeth around as well. I have no idea which kids they belonged to but golly! Those teeth were started in my body!
Okay- here's my very best parenting tip ever: When your child loses a tooth, immediately go and place your toothbrush in a weird place right next to where you usually keep it. That way, if you somehow forget to help the tooth fairy, when you go to brush your teeth before bed, you will be reminded, thus avoiding a horrible situation the next morning.

Mrs Moon, that is priceless.

Aw I hear ya Ms. Moon! When LB's first tooth fell out I put it under the pillow, I really wanted to see what would happen :) Weird thing is, it disappeared, and I've no idea what LB got, but he seemed to like it.

High fives to the tooth fairy.

When the pre-schooler caught wind of this she got antsy... asks me every day when her tooth's going to fall out.

Brilliant tip Mrs Moon!

Mick, when you asked what teeth were going for, I thought you were looking to sell your mother's stash!

It's just been in the paper, actually, apparently the average is 3.70

And at a party this weekend someone told me about her friend's husband who was on t-fairy duty and left a fifty euro note! Presumably he had no change.

My father kept all lost teeth (mine, my two siblings' and the dog's...). When I turned 21 he said he had something important to show me and he produced the jar of teeth. Kind of creepy but cool.

Bit of a tangent, my friend's girlfriend keeps her dead dog's teeth in a locket around her neck.

Jesus.

Kind of wishing I hadn't started this now...

Our son lost his first tooth last week, luckily the tooth fairy sorted it out before having the bottle of wine...

Like your daughter's new tooth, Noah's is further back than his baby teeth so I'm hoping thats just nature rather than orthodontist...
