tender sunday

My heart feels a little heavy today.
Things are not quite as I would have them be.
And my hands are starting to age...

I remember my mother pinching the skin
on the back of her hand, then mine
saying, what matters is how fast it springs back
Suddenly, it's no longer such a consolation.

Yes. Today is a day with less elasticity. Less bounce.

Do you remember when you didn't get any sleep one night and you went to the bathroom, looked in the mirror and were surprised how young and well you looked?

Well, I wish you another one of those moments :-)

Oh, that's sweet. I'll still have Madonna hands though, only chubby, so not so clawlike.

I P dad? Really? :) And are you still going to be so Polish now you're returning to the mother land?

Um, my kid will always be half Polish no matter where we live. Unfortunately after talking to my wee brother this last week, returning to the motherland doesn't seem definite.

Let's wait and see :-)

Forget about the hands. The eyes are the most important anyway. You can always put gloves on ;-)

So prettily said, though...

And so recognisable.

I hope you get your elasticity back soon. x

First off, let me say I love that picture. And you know what? The older and clawier my hands get, the more I love them. I know that's strange but it's true. It's the way my legs look that make me despair.

Hmm. My hands are stille essentially the same shape they were when I was two... pudgy and dimpled and fat fingered.

But now they're going to get veiny and wrinkled too, and I suppose the issue is that I always been waiting for the day they I magically became grown up and elegant (I MAY have found a nail biting cure at the age of 33) but now I suddenly realise that I'm just going to go straight from child to crone with no in between.

Sigh.

ha !i remember exactly the same conversation with my Mum, her pinching her hands and then mine, and the difference...I think about it often now I have the beginnings of old lady hands...frightening....

That's so funny! I've done it all my life. The Test! I loved my mother's hands though :)

How funny! my mom did that too!!! It must be a universal thang.

Every now and then I test my hand skin and it definitely does not snap back anymore.
