startling image

http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/1101/harneym.html

Someone threw red paint at our minster for health as she ceremoniously turned a sod at a new mental health centre.

This image strikes me as powerful in its symbolism

Yes, Mary Harney, you have blood on your hands, and you're digging us deeper in, alright.

and the guy behind her is giving it the thumbs up? i wonder how close the woman throwing the paint was, that's well aimed...

She had a squirt bottle. And she's an ex Sinn fein councillor...

Looking at these pics all day, you know what strikes me?

Even covered in paint, Harney still could not give a shit.

Well, it's her job to put some sort of face on things. I don't know. I can't imagine that's a happy woman, at all at all.

I don't know what she's done wrong, but that's an unfortunate black bag she's wearing. Or am I just being shallow?

Jo said...

Shallow like a grave?

She's minister for a corrupt and incompetant health service. Seemingly never at fault for any giant fuck ups, like women with breastcancer getting false negative test results and being sent home to die.

Some believe her current job is just about getting the HSE ready for privatisation.

Either way, huge health cuts are coming.

I read last week that someone was moving to England with their child with cystic fibrosis, because people with CF have THREE TIMES the life expectancy there as they do in Ireland.

That's calling a spade a shovel. dodgy bint still looks smug... how does she do it?!? How does she sleep soundly?

I highly doubt she does Kate. But at least her pension will take care of her stress related and no doubt private medical bills.

She's done anything BUT put a face on things I think, a queen of self absolution.

Smug is right, smug, ruthless, unwavering.

I find it hard to see where a billion euro is being spent providing health services in Ireland in the first place, never mind where they are going to cut a billion from.

don't get me started...

k8, i think the tool in question would actually qualify as a shovel, rather than a spade!

it is a black bag she's wearing alright, but i think she actually lost weight in the last few years... i think she sleeps alright, sure ministers aren't responsible for anything, are they? they just sign stuff, and snip ribbons or turn sods...

PS on rte radio yesterday they were saying a bottle was thrown, i wonder were they aiming for more sympathy for her. in my mind she had a glass bottle thrown at her, until they clarified it later.
i don't know how public television works in ireland, but i sometimes get the impression they are pro FF...

Bahahahahhaa, you think so Irmhild? I think you might be right...

ach, I don't think assaultis a correct form of protest and it harms the more appropriate kind. I loved the Icelandic one, with everyone outside parliament, lighting abonfire and banging things. Angry, contained vigil.

It will come soon, and we all have to just go do it.
