I have the Martha Stewart cookie book. I haven't baked much out of it today, but I thought I'd give her brownies a go.
I was sort of worried... what if they were really good? What if the kids liked them better than my recipe, and I never got to make it again??
Well. I might have baked it a few minutes too long - but they were resoundingly rejected by Olivia! Haha! In your face, Martha Stewart, I have a better brownie recipe than you!!

Ooh, what's your brownie recipe? I have a very trusted one too that I always regret deviating from when I try others.. I use a Donna Hay one, and add some extras. But I am always up for a test! I reckon you just really get to know your own recipe and your oven, and there is a very intimate relationship between you and your brownie batter ;) Mmmmm... brownies. Drooool.
Rhi, I might have to continue guarding it with my life - it was my mothers, doubled and written on a notecard in her recipe box - no idea where it came from! It's simple and rich, maybe that's all. 4 eggs...
It also stipulates a very light folding in of the flour, which MS's one doesn't, she says to make it in the mixer, and mine is v, handmade.
You're right about the oven - pan size and shape is pretty crucial too - changes the texture from chewy to cakey, according to the Joy of Cooking. I confess I haven't got the timing exactly right yet either.
So far out of 3-4 Martha recipes, I only really liked 1. - Carina
Hmm. Is Martha a giant sham?
That's funny to me. You have the book, you make the recipe and you hope it's bad. Crazy thing!
But why? I want my own incredible, lifelong favourite brownie recipe to remain that way? I don't want it to be usurped by Martha Stewart! I want to be BETTER than Martha Stewrat. Ha, nice typo.
