Axl's been playing a regular Friday night gig in the Purty Kitchen in Temple Bar for four years now. The place went into receivership a while back - there's always been a dirth of communication and/or respect for them there, but still, the work's been regular and they (and we) depend on it. The other week was Pride weekend, and they abruptly cancelled the gig, to just put on a disco. Cos, you know, everyone knows, gay people don't like live music... despite the fact that the previous year had been hopping.
Tonight they got a call from the band who goes on before them - who were standing out in the rain looking at shuttered doors. Seems the club's been sold, finally, and has closed for renovation. No one called, no one told them. Wouldn't you think it would be common decency on someone's part?
I think this is what's wrong with recession Ireland. No one's looking after anyone else. We're in trouble, so fuck you. Who cares? I hate that.
For the second fortnight, the payroll guy has taxed me three times as much as usual. I've been trying to track him down to ask why (the Revenue say it's nothing to do with them) but he's not available to talk to teachers - he's either at the bank or out having a smoke or on his lunch when we're not teaching. And he's reputedly incredibly 'grumpy', the director went so far as to warn me of this. Jesus. I've finally made an appointment, as it's happened for a second time, despite my attempts to find out what the problem is.
It's Bodhi's birthday party on Sunday, we're planning a party in the park again, though the weather has been so foul this summer I think it may be foolishly optimistic. It's such a fun, cheap option, though. Seriously, July. JULY.
Ach. Things are... inauspicious at the moment.

The sun is going to shine its arse off on Sun..hope you have a brilliant day.
That was me :)
Argh, it's NEXT Sunday! Thankfully, as I have to make a mole cake.
So hopefully it will repeat itself next week!
I have my fingers crossed for your weather.
I also notice this attitude here in England so Im not sure it's exclusive to the Irish.
We seem to have stopped caring about each other as a society. It's all about me, me, me and who can I blame for this misfortune and who will pay for this!
I watched a programme recently about the birth of punk rock and how the kids of that time were rebelling against a society that gave them no hope for the future.
It's funny, I was of that age at that time and I never felt that way. I went out and got a job - it didnt pay well but I needed money - and I came home and cooked and clean the family home for my father - because someone had to keep things together.
Maybe that says more about me than the others around me but I'd like to think we all have the gumption in us to do something proactively rather than wait for it to be given to us. Charity, political correctness and the welfare state have gone mad. We seem to live in a world where the truly disabled and those who have made an effort to at least try to get a job are made to fight for benefits, whilst the lazy ones who know how to work the system can get money for nothing.
Sorry, I seem to be on a rant this morning!
