trauma!

I'd messed up the bath water, it was cold, I hadn't turned on the immersion properly, and that sort of threw me off - I left the baby in my daughter's room and didn't really register when he'd crawled over to the door and was playing with a bag of clothes just outside. He's only just started crawling and I'm not quite used to it yet.

A minute later I looked out to see him at the top of the stairs, reaching down - I jumped for his foot but just missed him as he tumbled onto his face and then rolled over and over in front of me, landing with a bump at the bottom. It was so fast!

Here we go. My daughter never did that!

Luckily our stairs is split in two, so it wasn't that far. Still horrible, the way I could see it all unfolding, but was powerless to stop it. He only cried for a couple minutes, I think he's ok, just a little tender. Rescue remedy all round - he seemed to savour the brandy thoughtfully.

I meant to say, on the 24th of April it was his 9 month birthday. At breakfast he was sitting in his high chair and did a protracted fart - he looked up at me with delighted amusement, and broke up laughing. Yep, he's a boy alright...

Boys are just potential disaster made flesh.

I came home to a crying household, Robert at 9 months had decided to escape from his playpen, which he did using his little legs to climb and his face to land on, stopping only to split his head open in a fireplace.

Jane was all "I'm a terrible mother" and I said "No, he's a boy and we have to test our limits, repeatedly until we are satisfied or unconscious, or sometimes, both"

I think all toddler boys should be safety inspectors, if they can find a way of doing harm, then it is safe, full stop.

When the time comes to teach the facts of life to your son, don't bother with all the sex stuff coz he'll have already learnt that from Friends, which is on daytime TV all day every day. Just say to him "listen son, I have to tell you,... girls fart too."

Because otherwise the first time his girlfriend blows off will be the most traumatic of his life.

Thank Goodness he wasn't hurt!

Scary thing is that if you had had to take him to hospital you could have had social workers all over you.

magogt - you think they get social workers for evey baby who falls down the stairs? I somehow doubt it, given that we don't have enough social workers for people who really need them. Could be wrong though.

Tinman, I was just thinking the other day, about when I was in secondary school and convinced my freind Daniel girls didn't fart. He was doubtful, but he caved when I said 'well have you ever heard a girl fart?'

Years later he gave out to me for the problems this caused him!

Robert - I know - this is not the last post on battered baby boys I will be writing....

Aww, these sorts of things are probably harder on the mama than on the baby! Glad all is well...

Jo - My sister fell downstairs while carrying her baby - sh hurt her arm and went to hospitsal with baby - both OK - but a senior nurse told her that if she hadn't had to be checked out ( x rays of arm ) the incident would have been automatically reported.

I have friend who is a consultanat in A&E in a major hospital in England - she said that would be an automatic report in her department if a parent brought in a damaged baby.

Of course most times SFA is done by social services, but that's a different matter entirely!

always used stairguards, two boys, so totally necessary.
Glad the little tike is OK :)

Just took down stairguards this week as littlest is nearly three and has moved on to new dangers...
