redner

I am bereft. I finished the Stephanie Meyer books yesterday. I want more, I'm suffering withdrawal.

They're so addictive! I went to a friend's house on Thursday morning, and sat there twitching for half an hour, wishing I was able to read more. I want to be back in that world of vamp angst and romance, all alight.

I wish.... sigh.

I'm embarrassed at reading them so compulsively - I texted Ciara to tell her I was finished, and she asked if I wanted to borrow the next one. No, I mean, I'm finished them all. And the same today when I met the mum of the 12 year old I borrowed them off, she was aghast. Yes, I've been neglecting my children and duties, alright!

Here's another, more damning confession. I might have, just out of curiosity, gone looking for some Twilight adult fanfiction last night - just for the purposes of research, of course. But sadly it's crap written by teens, it seems. I see a niche. Because my feeling is that the books are really missing the searing sex scenes that are implied. She owes us mothers that, surely.

Vampires, hey? Not that I ready that type of stuff, ever, or if I do, it's just for research purposes (naturally...), but have you tried Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series, now an HBO series (True Blood) by Alan Ball (the 6 feet under guy)Vampires and werevolves galore... I can't believe I delurk to say something like that!

I still haven't opened that book and this is not helping me.
I don't want to be an addict!
(But I fear I will be.)

I guess this was how children felt in between Harry Potter books! Will there be another book in the series?

Ha, MOB, my daughter asked me last night did I like them better than Harry Potter, and I had to realise that I did.

There is a new book coming, I'm happy to say - someone leaked the first 12 draft chapters to it online (the bastards!) and she was v upset over it - buit it's had such a good response she's decided to go on with it. She has the first chapter up on her site now.

Go for it, Ms Moon, it's over quickly. Except for the lingering yearnings...

Thanks for delurking, Cathy! I just heard about the TrueBlood tv show, a very much more grown up friend was watching it online and recommended it, even though it's 'not his thing'. I didn't realise it was books first, I might seek them out.

Did you see 'Being Human' on BBC3 at all? Sexy Irish vampire!

Didn't see that show - of course, I had to google it, and now I'm thinking of ordering the DVD...

Me too, now!

Apparently Anne Rice's Interview with a vampire books are supposed to be good.

never read them yet though...

Jo said...

You haven't... read them? She said weakly, in disbelief.

Stick to the first four, they get ropey after that. The Witching Hour series is great too.

The dad of the 12year old you borrowed them off is not so much aghast as impressed.

The fourth book alone is huge.

And the dad of the 12 year old you borrowed them off feels that the searing sex scenes can stay implied till said 12 year old is 22, thank you very much.

Oo, you're not going to like my upcoming post/link about the books being 'gateway' books to erotica!

I'd read the Anne Rice books before the Charlaine Harris ones, if you are looking for searing erotica. In fact, she also wrote some straight erotica under the name A.N. Roquelaire (I can't remember the spelling, but that's close.)

It's based on the Sleeping Beauty myth, and as an indication, "kissing" is not the first thing the prince does when he finds her asleep.

Jo said...

Aw, that's not fair, Cate, I'm fairly sure he kisses her first :)

Actually, morgor, I think the Beauty books would be of definite interest to you...

So sorry I forgot to say these books had a health warning Jo! How could I forget...

Hmmm... Did you like the last one? I hate to admit I didn't. But I will admit that I am actually re-reading them all just to make sure...

oh I am pleased I am not the only one addicted to these books. Even bought the DVD :)

Midnight sun, the first 12 leaked chapters are available to read on Stephanie Meyers website ...

Hi Cheeky. You know you're not alone!

I read the first chapter, am dithering about the rest - I would've once I was there, but I didn't see them. I feel bad for her, it was clearly a crummy experience. And she'd rather people read hte finished version.

If I was the author, I'd hate it. So I might wait. I don't know. I might not have the self restraint. No Edward, me.
