sometimes I wish

that someone better than me would adopt my children, and I could just leave them to it and not listen to the fighting and bitching and bickering and shouting and whinging and screaming and crying and fussing and whining anymore.

I hate this, sometimes.

I'm tired, we've just returned home from a weekend away and an expensive and not very successful trip into town to see some arty kids films. We're home half an hour and I'm sitting here listening to them again and I feel defeated.

So. Suck it up and get on with the job and stop whining. I think I'll only take one with me when I have to go out shopping though.

We did see this, which made me weep quite a lot - if you can get your hands on it, do.

Is that movie a metaphor for what happens when a mother suffers from depression? Or is that just my own experience?
It's pretty darn sweet, no matter what.

Actually, it's not depression, it's divorce. They go home from the supermarket and he's playing while she cuts up photos of when she was happy - and cries, and gets into bed with him at night.

And when his dad comes to pick him up, he's a beast too, and they snarl at one another.

It's totally heartbreaking, and excellent.

The mother turns back into herself first.

It's just hard work being a parent. Is it harder than it was when our parents had us? Im not sure but I think the pressures are greater to keep up with the other parents and be some kind of superparent... without being a helicopter parent.

And the kids themselves are so much harder to please. They;re jaded and spoiled and in many cases unable to entertain themselves with just their imagination. They want it and they want it now but they dont want to have to do anything to earn it :(
