oh yes!

The answer is simple: this time in history demands we be BOLD when we give birth. There is no right or wrong birth choice -- a mother can decide on a natural birth or feel she needs pain-relieving drugs -- but there is a choice. Right now pregnant mothers are making no choices when it comes to childbirth. They are sleepwalking 1950s housewives brainwashed into thinking they are not qualified to deliver their babies and submitting to a medical system that is forgetting how to help women deliver babies beyond surgery.

Great article!

Heh heh. Very timely for me (shhh). After two very natural, drug-free, active labours and a water birth for my first two in Australia, I am wondering how I will go in the Belgian system which seems sooooo old fashioned. I am already dreading it, and worrying about having to argue my case, and I haven't even been to a Dr here yet!! I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the link. :)

Yikes, Belgium's bad? And Holland is so close, and so much more advanced. The last master of our National Maternity Hospital married a Dutch woman, and she went home to Holland for a home birth!

Homebirth might be the answer, is that a possibility?

I've emailed someone to find out how it works with homebirths / independent midwives and if there are any out here (we are 30 mins from city in good traffic). My little man was born after not even 45 minutes of 'labour', so I am hoping there is a good super-close option ;) Belgium is waaaaay behind Holland I am afraid. Very frustrating.
